A mystery picture
from an old camera

Does anyone know where this is?

A mystery picture – printed from negatives processed from an old camera – but where is it? One clue to its whereabouts is the name ‘Lincolnshire’ on the side of the omnibus, and a building which seems to be the Tower Cinema. As for the date, it appears to be pre-WW2 as, about to disappear behind the clock tower, is an old open-sided charabanc. The ladies also appear to be wearing 1930s-style headwear. The time, however, is beyond dispute as the clock declares it to be seven minutes past eleven!

Graham Barney – born and bred in Sheringham, Norfolk, had this to say in an email to Albie:

“Your mystery picture is the clock tower in Skegness. The scene is very similar today and the Tower cinema is still there!

“My wife and I had a meal in a café next to the clock tower during October 2010.

“I’m enjoying your tales of Sheringham and the Paston School.”

(Graham also said he went to the Paston School, North Walsham in the 1970s).
