ALBIE
HAS A SURPRISE!
IT
WAS QUITE a surprise to discover these two newspaper
cuttings hidden amongst the pages of Norwich and its Region
I had recently purchased from a local bookshop!
They
show the visit to Norwich of King George VI and Queen
Elizabeth (the late Queen Mother) on Monday, 31 October, 1938.

The
captions read: (Top picture) Through streets lined with
cheering crowds... the King and Queen driving to St Andrews
Hall
for lunch after the King had opened Norwichs City Hall.
(Above, left) Picture on the left shows the King and
Queen preceding
the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress up the steps of the War
Memorial, where the King laid a wreath.
The Queen is wearing a striking coat of grey Indian lamb with
a
novel epaulette collar.

(Above,
left ) Cheers and handwaving greet the King and Queen as
they leave the City Hall at Norwich after its formal opening
by the
King. (Above, right) The Queen chatting with patients,
who, wrapped
in blankets, waited to see her at the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital,
where she opened the Geoffrey Colman Memorial.
You
just never know what youre going to find, do you?
